Do new trucks and EVs need undercoating?

A new vehicle is the best time to protect the underbody, because the coating bonds to clean metal before any corrosion starts. Trucks and SUVs with exposed frames benefit most, and EVs such as Tesla and Rivian have large battery trays and aluminum components that salt attacks too. We protect vehicles from Minneapolis, Edina and across the Twin Cities.

FAQ

More frequently asked questions

Where can I get IGL Aegis undercoating in Minneapolis?

Pristine Detail installs IGL Aegis graphene-reinforced anti-corrosion coating at 4444 W 76th St in Edina, serving Minneapolis, Eden Prairie, Bloomington, Minnetonka and the southwest metro. It is available on its own as IGL Aegis Underbody Coating or combined with Waxoyl cavity protection in our Ultimate Rust Protection package. Call (651) 706-9895 or request a quote online.

What is the difference between traditional undercoating, wax-based rustproofing and IGL Aegis?

Traditional tar, asphalt and rubberized undercoatings cure into a hard black shell that can crack with age and trap moisture against the metal, hiding rust until it is advanced. Wax and oil-based products such as Waxoyl stay soft, creep into seams and cavities and self-heal, but they wear off exposed areas and need renewal. IGL Aegis is a two-part, graphene-reinforced clear coating that cures into a thin, hard, transparent barrier. IGL reports it has passed 6,000 hours of salt-spray testing, and because it is clear you can always see the condition of the metal underneath. Pristine Detail in Edina installs Aegis for the exposed underbody and Waxoyl for enclosed cavities.

Do you offer trim restoration?

Yes. Our trim restoration and protection service is $199 and restores faded, grey plastic trim and bumpers to a deep factory black, then seals them against UV fading. It is a popular add-on with any detail or ceramic coating, and we serve Minneapolis, Edina and the surrounding suburbs.

What is included in an engine bay detail?

An engine bay detail is $79.99 and includes careful degreasing and cleaning of the engine bay with sensitive electronics protected, followed by a dressing that leaves plastics and hoses with a clean, factory look. It is popular before selling a vehicle and for show cars.

What is XPEL Windshield Protection Film?

XPEL Windshield Protection Film is an optically clear film applied to the outside of your windshield that acts as a sacrificial barrier against rock chips and cracks from gravel and road debris, while blocking 99% of UV rays. It is a smart add-on with any paint protection film package before a Minnesota winter.

How much does wheel powder coating cost?

Powder coated wheels start at $999 for four standard one-piece alloy wheels in a durable, chip-resistant finish. Larger wheels, multi-piece or forged wheels and two-tone finishes are quoted. Powder coating is popular for refinishing curb-rashed wheels or changing a wheel color on Teslas, trucks and sports cars.

How much does caliper painting cost?

Caliper paint starts at $1,050 for four standard calipers in high-temperature paint, with your choice of color. Large multi-piston or carbon-ceramic brake calipers and custom lettering are quoted individually. Call or text (651) 706-9895 for a quote on your vehicle.

How much does STEALTH PPF cost?

Pricing depends on coverage and vehicle size, and a full-vehicle satin conversion is quoted by vehicle. Call or text (651) 706-9895 for a written quote. We are a certified XPEL installer at 4444 W 76th St in Edina, serving Minneapolis and the Twin Cities.

Can you install STEALTH on just part of the car?

Yes. STEALTH is available as a partial front end, full front end, track package or full vehicle. Some customers mix finishes, for example a satin hood and roof over gloss paint, or satin on the entire car with gloss accents. We can show you examples at our Edina shop.

How do I wash a satin PPF car?

Use a pH-neutral soap, a hand wash or touchless wash, and skip wax, polish and glossy detail sprays, which can create shiny patches on a satin surface. Matte-safe sealants and XPEL's own care products keep the finish even. We will go over the routine with you at pickup.

Can STEALTH protect factory matte paint?

Yes, and it is the best way to do it. Factory matte paint cannot be polished, so any scratch or stain is permanent. STEALTH film takes the hits instead and self-heals light swirls, so your matte Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW or Tesla keeps its original finish.

What is XPEL STEALTH paint protection film?

XPEL STEALTH is a satin-finish paint protection film. On glossy paint it creates a smooth matte look, and on factory matte paint it protects the finish without changing how it looks. It has the same self-healing top coat, rock-chip protection and 10-year manufacturer warranty as XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS clear film.

Can you do color change PPF on a Tesla?

Absolutely. Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X and Cybertruck are some of the most common vehicles we cover in colored film, and we also do Rivian, Porsche, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. We serve Minneapolis, Edina and the southwest metro from our shop at 4444 W 76th St in Edina.

Does colored PPF self-heal?

Yes. Like clear XPEL film, colored paint protection film has a self-healing top coat: light swirls and scuffs disappear with heat from the sun or warm water. It also resists staining from bugs, bird droppings and road salt, so the color stays even and glossy with regular washing.

How much does color change PPF cost?

Color change PPF is a full-vehicle install, so pricing depends on your vehicle's size, the brand and finish you choose and the paint prep required. It costs more than a vinyl wrap but far less than a quality repaint plus clear film. Call or text (651) 706-9895 for a written quote.

Which colored PPF brands do you install?

We install colored paint protection film from Pure PPF, Inozetek and 3M in gloss, satin and matte finishes. Each brand offers a different color range, so we will show you samples in person at our Edina shop and help you choose a color that suits your vehicle.

What is color change PPF and how is it different from a vinyl wrap?

Color change paint protection film is a thick, self-healing urethane film in a color or finish, so it changes the look of your car and protects the paint from rock chips and scratches at the same time. Vinyl wrap is a thinner, cosmetic film that offers very little impact protection. Colored PPF is the premium option when you want a new look that also guards the paint.

Can you protect the repair afterwards?

Yes. After refinishing we can install XPEL paint protection film on the repaired panel or the whole front end, and apply a ceramic coating so the new paint resists chips, salt and UV. Customers from Minneapolis and Edina often combine a bumper repair with a full front end PPF package.

How much does auto body repair cost?

Every repair is estimated after we inspect the damage, because the cost depends on the panel, the depth of the damage and the paint. Send photos by text to (651) 706-9895 for a ballpark, then visit our Edina shop for a written estimate. We price match an identical service from the closest competitor (exclusions apply).

Can you remove door dings and hail dents?

Yes. Paintless dent repair removes door dings, hail dents and minor creases by massaging the metal from behind, preserving your factory paint and finish. It is the best option whenever the paint is not cracked. Deeper creases or dents on a body line may need conventional repair, which we also handle.

Can you fix a scratch without repainting the whole panel?

Often, yes. Scratches in the clear coat are removed with paint correction. Deeper scratches that reach primer or metal are repaired and refinished with factory color matching, blended into the surrounding panel so the repair is invisible. Text us a photo and we will tell you which approach your damage needs.

What auto body services do you offer?

Paintless dent repair, bumper repair and replacement, heavy scratch repair, color-matched refinishing and collision repair, all coordinated by our Edina team. Because we also install paint protection film and ceramic coatings, we can finish a repair with protection so the panel stays looking new.

How much does undercoating cost?

Pricing depends on your vehicle's size, the package you choose (IGL Aegis, Waxoyl or Complete Rust Protection) and how much prep the underbody needs. Every job is quoted by vehicle at our Edina shop. Call or text (651) 706-9895 for a written quote; annual inspection and touch-up are available to keep the protection current.

Can you undercoat a vehicle that already has rust?

Usually, yes. We wash and degrease the underbody, inspect it and treat surface rust before coating so the corrosion is stopped rather than sealed in. Heavy, flaking rust or perforated metal needs repair first, and we will show you photos and explain the options before any work begins.

Is undercoating worth it in Minnesota?

Yes. Minnesota uses road salt and liquid brine that cling to the underbody and keep corroding long after the roads dry. Frame rails, rocker panels, brake lines and subframes are the first to go, and that damage is expensive to repair. Protecting the underbody preserves resale value and keeps trucks, SUVs and EVs on the road longer.

What is the difference between IGL Aegis and Waxoyl?

IGL Aegis is a clear, graphene-reinforced 2K ceramic coating sprayed on the frame, floor pans and suspension, where it cures hard and blocks salt and moisture. Waxoyl is a penetrating wax-based rustproofing injected inside doors, rocker panels, frame rails and seams where salt collects and sprays cannot reach. Our Complete Rust Protection package combines both.

Do you detail cars near Minneapolis?

Yes. Our detailing is done inside our shop at 4444 W 76th St in Edina, a short drive from Minneapolis, St. Louis Park, Bloomington, Richfield, Eden Prairie and Minnetonka via Highway 100 and I-494. We have detailed daily drivers, family SUVs, EVs and exotics here since 2015. Visits are by appointment; call or text (651) 706-9895 to book.

Can you remove smoke or pet odors?

Yes. Our odor removal treatment eliminates up to 90% of odors from smoke, pets, spills and mildew, and it comes with a return guarantee of up to three visits if the smell comes back. Pet hair removal is a separate add-on priced by how much hair is embedded in the carpet and seats.

What is included in an exterior detail?

A foam bath and hand wash, mechanical and chemical decontamination (iron remover and clay) to pull embedded grit out of the paint, wheel and wheel-well cleaning, a hand dry, protective wax or sealant, tire dressing and trim protection. It is safe for ceramic-coated, wrapped and PPF-protected vehicles.

What is included in an interior detail?

A complete vacuum including the trunk, steam and bacteria removal, cleaning and protection of every panel in the cockpit, seat cleaning and leather conditioning, shampooed carpets and mats, door jambs and interior glass, finished with a UV protectant on dash and trim. Odor and pet hair removal are available as add-ons.

How much does car detailing cost?

Two-door vehicles start at $199.99 for an interior detail, $149.99 for an exterior detail and $299.99 for a full detail. Four-door vehicles are $249.99, $199.99 and $349.99, and SUVs are $349.99, $249.99 and $499.99. Large vehicles are quoted, with full details starting around $699.99. Heavy pet hair or biohazard cleanup may add a charge.

How much does Ceramic Pro cost in Minneapolis?

Pricing depends on the package (Sport through Ultimate ION), your vehicle's size and how much paint correction the finish needs before coating. Higher packages include more layers and more prep, which is where most of the cost sits. Call or text (651) 706-9895 for a written quote, or stop by our Edina shop to see coated vehicles in person.

Are you a certified Ceramic Pro installer?

Yes. Pristine Detail is a certified Ceramic Pro installer at 4444 W 76th St in Edina, serving Minneapolis and the southwest metro. Only certified shops can purchase Ceramic Pro coatings and register the manufacturer warranty, so choosing a certified installer is the only way to get genuine product and warranty coverage.

What does the Ceramic Pro warranty require?

Warranties on Bronze and above require an annual inspection at a certified installer so the coating can be checked and maintained. Follow basic care: pH-neutral washes, no abrasive automatic brushes and no wax over the coating. The warranty is registered with Ceramic Pro and attached to your vehicle, which is a selling point when you trade or sell.

Which Ceramic Pro package should I choose?

Sport is the entry package with a six-month warranty, ideal for leases. Bronze (one layer of 9H plus Top Coat) carries a two-year warranty, Silver (two layers) a five-year warranty and Gold (four layers with two-step paint correction and all glass coated) a lifetime warranty. Ceramic Pro ION offers a seven-year warranty and Ultimate ION a lifetime warranty with maximum gloss. We will match a package to how long you plan to keep the car.

What is Ceramic Pro and how is it different from other coatings?

Ceramic Pro is a professional nano-ceramic coating system built in layers, with Ceramic Pro 9H as the base and Top Coat for slickness and gloss. It is sold only through certified installers and backed by manufacturer warranties that are registered to your vehicle. Compared with consumer sprays, it is harder, thicker and far more resistant to UV, salt, chemicals and swirling.

Ceramic coating or paint protection film: which is better?

They solve different problems. A ceramic coating gives gloss, chemical and UV resistance and easy washing, but it will not stop rock chips. Paint protection film absorbs impacts from gravel, sand and road debris. Most of our Minneapolis and Edina customers combine them: XPEL film on the front end, then a ceramic coating over the film and the rest of the car.

Do I still need to wash a coated car?

Yes, but it is much easier. We recommend a hand wash or touchless wash with a pH-neutral soap and avoiding automatic washes with spinning brushes, which can mar any paint. You no longer need to wax. A coating-safe maintenance spray a few times a year keeps the hydrophobic behavior strong, and we can walk you through the routine at pickup.

How much does ceramic coating cost?

Cost depends on vehicle size, the condition of the paint and the package you choose: Essential, Premium or Ultimate. Every package includes the wash, decontamination and paint prep the coating needs to bond properly, which is why professional coatings outlast consumer sprays. Call or text (651) 706-9895 for a written quote from our Edina shop.

Which ceramic coating do you use?

We install XPEL FUSION PLUS, a professional coating available only through certified installers, with versions for paint, paint protection film, wheels and calipers, glass, trim and interior upholstery. We are also a certified Ceramic Pro installer and offer the full Ceramic Pro lineup on a separate page, so we can match the coating to your goals and budget.

What does a ceramic coating actually do?

A ceramic coating bonds to your paint and forms a hard, hydrophobic layer that resists UV fading, chemical etching from bird droppings and road salt, and light swirls from washing. Water beads and sheets off, dirt has a harder time sticking, and the paint keeps a deep gloss. It replaces waxing and sealing, so maintenance comes down to regular washes.

Can you tint my windshield?

Only with a current prescription or physician's or optometrist's statement of medical need, as Minnesota law requires. Clear windshield protection film, which doesn't darken the glass, is available for anyone.

How much does window tinting cost in Minneapolis?

It depends on the vehicle, how many windows, and the film series. Ceramic costs more than carbon and rejects far more heat. We quote each vehicle individually; call (651) 706-9895 or use the quote form on this page.

Does ceramic tint really reduce heat?

Yes. Ceramic film rejects infrared heat without needing a dark shade, so a legal 50% ceramic tint can keep the cabin cooler than a dark dyed film. XPEL PRIME XR rejects up to 85% of infrared heat.

Which window film do you install?

XPEL PRIME films: XR ceramic and CS carbon. Both block 99% of UV, contain no metal, and carry XPEL's transferable lifetime warranty against bubbling, peeling, cracking, fading and discoloration.

What is the legal window tint limit in Minnesota?

Minnesota requires side and rear windows to let through at least 50% of visible light (with a 3% tolerance) and to reflect no more than 20%. No film may be applied to the windshield unless the driver or a passenger holds a current prescription or physician's statement of medical need. Pickups and vans may run darker film on the rear windows and, for vans, the side windows behind the driver. We meter every install and keep your vehicle legal.

Can you ceramic coat over paint protection film?

Yes, and we recommend it. XPEL FUSION PLUS ceramic coating bonds to the film, adds gloss and makes the car far easier to wash. Bugs, salt and road film rinse off instead of sticking. Many customers choose PPF on the front end with a ceramic coating over the entire vehicle for complete protection.

What does the full front end package cover?

The full hood, full fenders, front bumper, side mirrors, headlights and fog lights are wrapped in a single layer of film with no visible line across the hood. Edges are wrapped where the panel allows so the film is nearly invisible. If you want the rockers, A-pillars and roof edge covered as well, the track package adds those high-impact areas.

Is PPF worth it in Minnesota?

Yes. Minnesota roads throw sand, gravel and salt at your front end all winter, and highway driving on I-494, I-35W and Highway 100 chips paint quickly. Film absorbs those impacts so the paint never sees them, which protects resale value and avoids repaint costs. Many of our customers protect new Teslas, Rivians, Porsches and trucks in their first weeks of ownership.

Which paint protection film do you install?

We are a certified XPEL installer. XPEL ULTIMATE PLUS is a clear, self-healing film with a 10-year manufacturer warranty against yellowing, cracking, peeling and staining. For a satin look we install XPEL STEALTH, and we offer XPEL Windshield Protection Film as an add-on. Light swirls in the film disappear with heat from the sun or warm water.

How much does paint protection film cost in Minneapolis?

PPF pricing depends on coverage and vehicle size. Options range from a partial front end (leading edge of the hood, fenders, bumper and mirrors) to a full front end, a track package or a full vehicle. The full front end is our most popular package. Every install is quoted by vehicle at our Edina shop; call or text (651) 706-9895 for a written quote.

Where do you do paint correction near Minneapolis?

All paint correction is done inside our Edina shop at 4444 W 76th St, under proper lighting and away from dust and weather. We are minutes from Minneapolis, Edina, Bloomington, St. Louis Park, Eden Prairie and Minnetonka. Visits are by appointment; call or text (651) 706-9895 to schedule an inspection.

Should I get paint correction before a ceramic coating or PPF?

Yes. A coating or film locks in whatever is underneath, so swirls and scratches become permanent until the coating is removed. We recommend at least a one-step polish before any ceramic coating, and our PPF installs include the paint prep needed for the film to bond cleanly. Correction is what gives a coated car that deep, mirror finish.

Can paint correction remove every scratch?

Correction removes defects that live in the clear coat: swirls, light scratches, water spots and oxidation. If a scratch catches your fingernail, it has gone through the clear coat and will need touch-up or body work instead of polishing. Our auto body team handles those repairs, and we will tell you honestly which scratches will polish out.

How much does paint correction cost?

Pricing depends on vehicle size, the condition of the paint and whether you need a one-step polish or full correction. We quote after inspecting the paint under proper lighting at our Edina shop. Pairing correction with a ceramic coating or paint protection film is more cost-effective than booking them separately. Call or text (651) 706-9895 for a quote.

What is the difference between a one-step polish and full paint correction?

A one-step polish (Stage 1) is for newer vehicles with light swirls, hard-water spots and minor haze; it restores gloss in a single machine pass. Full paint correction (Stage 2) is a multi-stage compounding and polishing process that removes up to 80% of swirls, scratches, oxidation and buffer trails. We measure your paint and recommend the level that fits its condition.

Do you wrap cars for Minneapolis customers, or only Edina?

Both. Our shop is at 4444 W 76th St in Edina, just off Highway 100 and I-494, which is a short drive from Minneapolis, St. Louis Park, Bloomington, Richfield, Eden Prairie and Minnetonka. Most of our wrap customers come from Minneapolis and the southwest metro. Visits are by appointment, so call or text ahead.

Can you wrap a Tesla, Rivian or other EV?

Yes. Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X and Cybertruck, along with Rivian R1T and R1S, are among the most common vehicles we wrap. Chrome deletes are especially popular on Teslas, blacking out window trim, door handles and badges in gloss, satin or matte. We also wrap Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and daily drivers of every make.

Which wrap films do you use?

We install 3M and Avery Dennison color-change films in gloss, satin, matte, metallic and specialty finishes, plus 3M and Avery print media with protective laminate for printed and commercial wraps. Our installers are certified, and we have a deep inventory of color samples you can see in person at the shop.

Will a vinyl wrap damage my paint?

No. Quality cast vinyl actually shields factory paint from UV rays, light scratches and road grime, and when it is professionally removed the original paint underneath is intact. The exceptions are failing clear coat or poor-quality repaints, which can lift during removal. We inspect your paint before quoting and tell you up front if any panel is a concern.

How much does a car wrap cost in Minneapolis?

Wrap pricing depends on your vehicle's size, the film you choose (3M or Avery Dennison), the finish and how much of the car is covered. A chrome delete or partial accent wrap costs far less than a full color change. Every wrap is quoted by vehicle at our Edina shop. Call or text (651) 706-9895 for a written quote, and we will price match an identical service from the closest competitor (exclusions apply).

How safe will my car be?

Pristine Detail maintains all vehicles inside our climate controlled location. We are fully insured and our facility is monitored using CMS 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

What is the darkest legal auto window tint allowed in Minnesota?

In Minnesota, a sedan must allow more than 50% of light in on all sides and the back glass. For a van or SUV, you must allow more than 50% of light in on the front two windows and any darkness may be used on the back two windows and back glass. Pristine Detail carries a variety of different window tint percentages for all of your needs.

Do you price match?

Pristine Detail will gladly match the price on an identical service sold by our closest competitor. Show us the ad or the quote and we will match the price. This excludes Black Friday, cyber Monday, and estimate errors. Limit to one match/item/service per customer. Restrictions may apply.

At this time, we do not offer a loaner vehicle. Our customers typically use Uber or Lyft.

How long is the warranty on window film and paint protection film?

We offer a 10 year warranty on our paint protection film and a lifetime warranty on our window film.
